Few months after the owner started the restoration of the 1959 Buick Electra, he got in touch with me because he wanted one more car. It had to be a Buick again, but an older one.
I started browsing the ads for mostly 1949-1952 cars. We inspected one 1949 Roadmaster 4 door sedan, that was not as good as we expected. We also checked a couple of 1950 model year cars, because we both liked most its specific waterfall grille.
Finally I found this beautiful 1951 Roadmaster 2 door hardtop that the collector was also impressed with it. The 2 door hardtops from this era have a great style with their low roofline and sloped back. The inspection of the vehicle showed a very good driving condition and exceptionally solid body, especially keeping in mind that the car was in Chicago area. Still the car needed a restoration to be perfect. It was advertised by a service shop that was specialized in modifying Chevy Novas for a person who has inherited the car recently.
The specific thing was that the seller wanted only cash which almost made the deal impossible. Luckily we found a solution and managed to buy the car. It arrived in January 2017 and after we saw it, we concluded that 1951 model year is a great year for Buick in terms of styling. Additional advantage was the two tone paint, which was still not so popular at the beginning of the 50s. Also being the top of the line model that rides on the longer wheelbase also contributed for the impressive appearance of the vehicle. Last but not least we were glad to see that the car was in the condition we expected and few months later the happy new owner started its restoration.
