Shortly after the person got his extremely low mile, magnificent 1976 Cadillac Eldorado convertible, he referred to me for the import of another car for his collection. This time he wanted a good complete restoration project. Initially we discussed several muscle cars, but he wanted a late 50s finned classic. I started exploring the market and sent him several different models. We selected a short list that consisted of several makes and models – mostly GM and Mopar products.
The first car that fulfilled all his preferences was 1959 Buick Electra 4 door flat top that appeared on an online ad. Luckily the car was in Minneapolis area close to the place of a friend of mine. He was able to go and see the car quickly. It was a complete original good running car with some rust, which was common for the cars from this area. The seller was a nice guy and kept his promise to keep the car for us, because we applied first. There were several other people who were interested in it. My friend from Minneapolis made a quick cash deal and the new owner was very satisfied.
It took a little while to the transportation company to pick up the car from my friend’s place, but finally the car was loaded and sent to Bulgaria. After it arrived (August 2016) I went to see it immediately. I was impressed how original it was still wearing its original paint and upholstery. The padded dash was in amazing condition. The Buick run well and we took a short ride. The stainless was also in good overall shape. Most of all I liked the beautiful design. This Electra was long, wide and low and the tail fins on the back were beautiful. The car had a bit of rust as expected and soon the new owner started the restoration that took several years. I helped with the process of parts hunting. The most difficult ones to find were the front moldings and the back up light housings. I found excellent moldings from a guy from the state of Montana that were expensive, but fitted very well the high level ground up restoration of the vehicle. The car is still under restoration, but it will be finished very soon and will be among the best 59 Buicks in Europe.
