The purchase of the 1970 Charger was a long process and meanwhile I was looking for a real Shelby GT-500. These are valuable and rare cars and not many of them were in our budget. I came upon a couple of 1967 Shelby GT-500 KRs – a copper and a lime green one. Both cars were beautiful, but I also spotted this red 1969 Shelby GT-500 listed by a dealer in Florida. I have always liked the 69-70 Shelbys, because they were much different compared to the regular Mustangs. What really impressed me about the red 69 Shelby was its history. This car had many documents proving its origin and it was one of the 22 cars from the personal collection of Caroll Hall Shelby when he passed away. I think that there is nothing better than owning a Shelby that belonged to the creator of these cars Caroll Shelby. The inspection of the car showed some cosmetical issues, but mechanically the car was sound. I was surprised to find a lot of online articles about this exact car. It turned out that in it’s early years it belonged to the famous actor Jackie Cooper and later went to an owner in Ohio from whom Shelby bought the car for himself. This car was sold by Bonhams, it has also been in some premium classic car dealers, also appeared in Rob Report magazine and many others. It was a car about which it was written a lot, a popular car. And this is what made it really different compared to the rest of the Shelbys we were considering. The dealer was in a process of listing the car in January 2023 Mecum Kissimmee auction, but we made a deal and the car didn’t go to there. It headed to the warehouse where the 1970 Charger was waiting for it.
Both cars travelled in a special container with special car covers, moisture traps and etc. They arrived safe and in excellent condition in Bulgaria. I really enjoyed the Shelby. It is a very special car that now is in Bulgaria. Its owner is also very happy and proud of it.
