Soon after the 1969 Mustang was imported his owner decided to finish his collection of muscle cars with one more vehicle. He had GM and Ford products, but still had no Mopars. That’s why he decided he wants one. We discussed the most desirable models and he choose 1970 Challenger. He wanted again a sportier version and a convertible, but since less than 1000 R/T convertibles were built in 1970 it was impossible to find any car close to his budget. So we decided to look for well optioned R/T coupe or a T/A version. The customer had also preferences in terms of colors. The car had to be in one of the so-called High Performance colors: Go Mango, Plum Crazy, Bright Green or Panther Pink.
Finding a car in excellent condition, with many options, matching numbers engine and the right color was quite a challenge. I found a plum crazy car with 383 engine, pistol grip gear lever and a shaker, but unfortunately its condition was not good enough. We also inquired for another plum crazy R/T SE, but it sold very quickly. We also missed one more car, which was very beautiful, but it sold while we negotiated on the price. I also had discussions about one convertible, but it was not in good condition and didn’t have its original color. At one time we also considered and looked at several Barracudas and Cudas, but at the end decided to keep on the Challenger search.
The patience and persistence paid off. I came upon this restored Plum crazy Challenger R/T with original matching numbers 440 V8 and 727 automatic transmission. It was advertised by a classic car dealer in St. Louis, Missouri. We inspected the car and the report was positive. The dealer was cooperative and we finalized the deal quickly. The Challenger arrived in Bulgaria in 02.2019. Needless to say how impressive it is and how much go the 440 V8 beast delivers. I am so glad that there is a car like this in Bulgaria and that I have a little contribution about this.
