A friend of mine introduced me to an enthusiast who had a very special request. He wanted to have a real classic Shelby or Eleanor from “Gone to 60” movie with Nicolas Cage. He wasn’t sure which one from both to select and he was always very busy. We exchanged several online ads, but our communication was very slow.
Nine months after our first contact he changed his mind and I started looking for a restomod and a hot rod. We exchanged various car ads and at one point we even inspected and decided to buy a very cool Ford Ratical hot rod which was like nothing else. Unfortunately, we figured out that if we buy this vehicle, we will not be able to register it in Bulgaria. The VIN number was present only on a small tag attached to the driver’s door. Also, the car was so modified that it was obvious that it has nothing in common with 1930 Ford serial production vehicle stated in the title, except for the grille and some trim parts. I took the opportunity to explain the enthusiast that we’d better stick to nice original cars. We determined the short list: 68-70 Charger R/T, 66-70 Shelby GT-500 and 1970 Chevelle SS. Of course, I started with the first two which were among my most favourite models. I explored many Chargers and tried to buy a black 69 R/T, but it was sold the next day when we inquired. Then I came upon this magnificent Burnt Orange 1970 Charger R/T. Initially the man was not so excited when I offered it to him, but I did my best to convince him, that this is the connoisseurs choice. The car was looking simply amazing – high end rotisserie restoration to the original specs.
I scheduled an inspection, and it showed a couple of mechanical issues. I was kind of disappointed. It was among the most expensive cars on the market, fresh high end restoration, looked awesome and still was not perfect. The dealer through was very honest and correct. Both mechanical issues were fixed. So we made the deal and bought the 1970 Charger.
I was so excited – I just fell in love with this car. A true classic American icon was heading to Bulgaria. The seller was cooperative and patient and left the Charger for three weeks in his showroom after we finalized the deal. We were waiting to get the second car for the man – a very special 1969 Shelby GT-500, for which there is a separate story, so both cars will travel together in a container to Bulgaria. There was no expense spared during the transportation of both vehicles.
They arrived safe and on time and I was glad to see that the Dodge is so nice as it was on pictures. For sure it is among the best classic American cars in Bulgaria if not the best one considering its value, originality and condition.
