My friend from whom I got my first order for a car delivery decided to shrink a little bit his collection in order, to get another car. I assisted him to sell one of his 1971 Mach 1 Mustangs to another friend of mine. Both parties were happy. The first one sold one of his cars quickly and easily, the second one got a great deal especially keeping in mind that the engine was professionally rebuilt, by the mechanic who took care of two of my second generation Trans ams. Soon the seller got the sellers remorse, although he has one more 1971 Mach 1 Mustang with manual transmission. This was among his most favorite models and he decided that the next car will be a 71-73 Mach 1 Mustang again. He wanted a cheap project to restore, so I started the next search. Finding such a desirable fastback for his low budget was quite a challenge. Most of the cars available in the price range he could afford were Grande coupes. I came upon a couple of fastbacks, but they were base versions with 302 engines and without the hood scoops. Few months later we were losing faith that we will find a car when I came upon a Craigslist’s ad that grabbed my attention. It was a rough 1972 Mach 1 with a 351 Cleveland engine in Denver Colorado area. I called my friend who assisted with the 1973 Buick Centurion cvt purchase and he went to inspect the car. The body was in bad shape, the interior too, but the undercarriage was solid and the car was in running condition. The brakes were poor as well as the steering. I used all mechanical and cosmetic issues to reduce the price significantly. So my friend decided to buy it. It definitely needed a lot of work but was exactly what he was looking for in terms of model year and specs. When the truck came, the loading of the vehicle was quite a challenge. No brakes and badly worn steering box surprised the truck driver. The car was finally loaded and went on its long way to Bulgaria.
It arrived in the summer of 2017 and my friend started working on it immediately although he had some other ongoing projects as well. We bought a lot of parts and the interior and the body were redone. The car is still a project, but it is in much better condition now.
