A friend of mine introduced me to a special person who wanted a big American convertible from the 70s. A friend of mine introduced me to a special person who wanted a big American convertible from the 70s. We had an interesting discussion regarding the model years, makes and models and he made his choice. He chose 1976 Cadillac Eldorado. It was a smart choice, because this particular year was supposed to be the last one for the American built convertibles. Another reason was the fact that this was the last year for the mighty 500 CID V8 Cadillac engine also.
So I got my next task – to find a low mile car in pristine condition. The late 70s Eldorados are popular cars and there are still plenty of them in the USA in good condition. The 1976 convertibles are rare through – 14 000 built and not many in pristine condition are left.
I found an excellent example in original Greenbrier Firemist color with white top which was located close to a friend of mine in Minneapolis area. It was a one owner car. The man was very old and wasn’t able to drive anymore. That’s why he wanted to sell the car. We were ready to make the transaction when suddenly he backed up and gave up selling his pride and joy.
I had to start looking for another car. Meanwhile the man informed me that he wants the best 1976 Eldorado convertible currently available on the market. I was excited. It didn’t take me much time to find it in a luxury dealership in Chicago suburbs. It was a one owner car with only 1800 documented original miles. It was stored in a climate controlled garage. It had all original documents from the purchase when it was new. Last, but not least it was in Florentine Gold Firemist metallic. It was one of those cars that were bought back in 1976 with investment intentions, because of the GM announcement that they will be the last American convertibles. This explained the low mileage of the vehicle and its “like new” condition. We finalized the deal quickly although the dealer was not very supportive and three months later the car arrived in Sofia (August 2015). I was glad to see and touch a 40 years old car that looks and smells like a new one and that was totally original down to the Vogue tires. The new owner was satisfied with it and soon I got another order from him.
