This car has an interesting purchase story. It was advertised on Ebay in spring 2018, while I was looking for my next 1978 Trans am. This car has an interesting purchase story. It was advertised on Ebay in spring 2018, while I was looking for my next 1978 Trans am. It had everything I could want – W72 400 engine, 4 speed manual transmission, WS6 suspension, T Tops, deluxe interior. It was a running low mileage project and was at an affordable price. After receiving more pictures from the seller, I backed up, because it looked too rusty. It was a Northern Wisconsin car and my memories of the rust issues of my 1959 Bonneville were still fresh. Also, the seller put the efforts to take the car out from a long storage, put a new radiator, fuel pump and gas tank and then decided to sell it which was a little strange. I showed the car to my friend who was the first to ask me to find for him a car. He had mentioned me before that he is interested in 1978 Trans am. He was not concerned by the rust issues, but said it is not the right time for him to get another car although it was a great deal.
The car was bought by a person in the USA that I know. His name is John and nobody in the USA is buying and selling more Second generation Trans ams than him.
Few months later I went to the US for a summer vacation and bought my second gold 1978 Trans am from California. After I returned home my friend told me that now it is his time to buy 1978 Trans am again. He wanted a black car with manual transmission and T-Tops – the most valuable combination possible. His budget was tight as usual. Since I was checking the ads for such cars regularly, I was aware that it is impossible to find what he wanted. He had to make a compromise and I told him that keeping in mind what is currently available on the market he had to at least give up from the black color.
This Trans am that I saw initially on Ebay was still available, but already from John. I got in touch with him, we discussed the price and my friend got his new car. It arrived 11.2018 and when I saw it, I was surprised to see that it was not as rusty as I expected.
My friend patched the rust issues and registered the car. He also did some engine work. Now this car has a fresh new black paint with a custom eagle on the hood. You can find more information about it in the “For sale” section.
